Solo Trombone

Len Hodgkiss

A long time Cornet player from Bolton, Len has played for many bands across the spectrum and has moved to the dark side, but is thoroughly enjoying playing Trombone.

Len has had a broad playing career ranging from classic brass, to Big Band with Orchestral repertoire and Military Bands sandwiched in the middle. A career in the Royal Navy forced a nomadic association with bands, but after setting in South Yorkshire he is now looking forward to resuming more regular playing.
Favourite Test Piece – Kensington Concerto bizarrely for that terrifying 16 bar cornet solo before the rest of the band play a note.

Best Contest moment – Winning Land o’ Burns contest with Johnstone in 2010, breaking Whitburn’s run of wins, beating Scottish Co-op (Co-operative Funeralcare), and other to flight Scottish bands.

Favourite Trombone Music – Tee Bone Concerto – hoping to be able to play it one day…
