Soprano Cornet

David Heiland

David started playing through school lessons at the age of 8 and his banding career began at 10 with Stannington Brass Band, where he stayed for 9 years before moving to the South Coast.

Once settled he joined Cantium Brass for a short time before moving across to Snowdown Colliery. It was here David first started playing Soprano cornet.

2010 saw a move back to Yorkshire and on to front row with Dronfield. A successful few years followed this with a few different bands while he looked for the perfect match. After Dronfield, periods at Barnsley Brass, Ireland Colliery, Oughtibridge and then Worsborough brought much achievement on the contest stage including 5 trips to the National Finals over 7 years.

Looking for a new challenge, David moved to Strata in April 2018 and looking forward to a first time competing at Championship level.

Favourite piece, Music for a Legacy by Stephen Pondsford.
