Lee Hugill

Lee Hugill – First Horn

Lee started playing at the age of 11 whilst at school and soon joined the local junior band at Frickley Colliery where he spent 6 very happy years under the expert guidance of Brian Till before accepting an invitation to join the senior band, Carlton Main Frickley in 1988 at the age of 18. Lee says he is very proud to have helped his home town band regain their top-flight status, Lee remained at Cartlon Main Frickley until 1994 when he decided to retire from playing and start a family.

Lee didn’t play again until 2008 and eventually joined Frickley South Elmsall on Solo Horn, this was to be the bands most successful period ever including a podium finish at the Yorkshire area in the first section. Lee accepted an invitation to re-join Carlton Main Frickley in early 2011, an opportunity Lee says, “was too good to turn down”.

Lee enjoyed a very successful second period at Cartlon Main Frickley with podium finishes at all the major championships, including a Yorkshire area title in 2013.

Lee decide to take another break from playing again in late 2014 and didn’t play permanently until he accepted an invitation to join Strata in the summer of 2016.
