Charles Hindmarsh – Bb Bass
Charles started his brass band career in March 1978 playing baritone with the late Leighton Rich M.B.E in Tewit Youth Band Harrogate. This band was known for working closely with the composer Wilfred Heaton who at the
time was a North Yorkshire peripatetic teacher.
After youth bands Charles has played in lower section bands such as Harrogate and Wetherby playing Eb Bass before moving into championship section playing for the Yorkshire Evening Post Band and then with the Lindley
Band.
Charles has also been a musical director of a number of lower section and unregistered bands including Knaresborough Silver, Haworth, Yeadon brass, Garforth Jubilee, Golcar and Summerbridge & Dacre.
He is also known for playing “musical saw” under the name of “The Yorkshire Musical Sawman” and has performed on TV (BGT and BBC news), recorded musical saw tracks for Grammy nominated song writer in the USA and has performed at variety and old-time music hall shows across the country.
