Joanne Hindmarsh

Joanne Hindmarsh – Percussion

Jo started off playing Oboe and Piano and has a wide range of experience in orchestras, wind bands, choirs and musical theatre. Her involvement in brass bands began when she met her husband Charles and became second 2nd horn and unofficial chief cheerleader for Knaresbrough Silver Band.

She has since played cornet with several bands, but was delighted to be invited Strata Brass two years ago to train as a percussionist.

Jo has performed in ensembles in 10 countries, in venues from Grand Central Station in New York and the Vatican to the top of Ilkley Moor and a swimming pool in Bradford. She has been part of two successful musical world record attempts and, to her family and neighbours dismay, also enjoys playing the Ukulele.

“My Favourite piece of (brass band) music is The Kingdom Triumphant by Eric Ball. We play the CD without fail on 1st December, and the first strains of “Lo He Comes with Clouds Descending” are a really fitting start to Advent”
